English at BGSU
Welcome to the blog of the Department of English at BGSU. We are one of the oldest departments on campus, having been a part of the old Bowling Green Normal College back before WWI, and we remain committed to this long tradition of excellence in teaching and scholarship.
We are one of the largest departments within the College of Arts and Sciences with over 300 undergraduate majors, nearly 80 graduate students, and a full-time teaching staff of 40. We offer undergraduate majors in literature, creative writing, scientific and technical communication, and a minor in linguistics, as well as graduate programs in rhetoric and composition, creative writing, and literary and textual studies. Each semester we offer approximately 120 classes that enroll in excess of 2000 students; our average class size is around 20 students-per-course. The Department is also home to the nationally-known literary magazine Mid-American Review.
