It is with great sadness that we share the news that Richard Hoffman passed away this morning after a sudden illness.

Dick Hoffman had a long affiliation with BGSU. During his career as a teacher at Toledo’s Woodward High School, he also taught here in the English department and with the Writing Center and the Honors Program.

For the past two years he was the director of the Partnerships in Context and Community Residential Learning Community. “He was absolutely wonderful in PCC,” said former director Dr. Bob Midden. “Dick was extremely dedicated, warm and caring, and highly effective. He was a tremendous leader and left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He had a deep regard for the students and a great rapport with them. They really cherished him. This is a sad and difficult loss. He will be very deeply missed.”

Dr. Cindy Hendricks, director of the School of Teaching and Learning, who had known him for almost 30 years, said in an email to the community that he “loved his work with all the faculty and the students associated with PCC. He loved being at BGSU, and he appreciated all the support he was given while he was here.”

If you would like to send your thoughts to the family, please do so at CaringBridge under RichardHoffman1. Updates on funeral arrangements will also be posted on the site.
