Media, War, and Conflict Resolution

Dr. Ellen W. Gorsevski, Assistant Professor in the Department of Interpersonal Communication writes to remind us of the School of Communication Studies’ upcoming International Conference entitled “Media, War and Conflict Resolution.” The conference will be held September 17-19, 2008.
Top speakers include major award winners Richard Rhodes (nuclear arms), Chris Hedges (New York Times war correspondent), Robert Parry (Consortiumnews.com), George Esper (AP, Vietnam war correspondent) as well as influential academics who study media coverage of war, including Daya Thussu (University of Westminster, executive editor of Sage journal Global Media Communication ), Andrew Hoskins (University of Warwick and executive editor of Sage journal, Media, War and Conflict) and many others.
Panel sessions of peer-reviewed papers feature both established and emerging young scholars who offer contemporary analyses of media, war and conflict resolution. A Pre-conference Workshop on September 17 showcases research by BGSU faculty on Educators’ Roles in Peace and Justice Communication. The conference also marks the start at BGSU of the new Peace and Conflict Studies program and Minor, and additionally it celebrates the recent launch of a new Sage journal in this area.
